How the calculation works

For each round you enter, the handicap differential is:

differential = (score − course rating) × 113 ÷ slope

Your Handicap Index uses your best differentials from the last 20 rounds: 8 if you have 20 rounds, fewer when you have less data. The sum is averaged and multiplied by 0.96 to get the Index.

The course rating is the expected score for a scratch golfer on those tees. The slope rating measures how much harder the course plays for a bogey golfer relative to a scratch golfer — 113 is the average.
